Three new apprentices for WDM

WDM USA's parent company, W.D.M. Limited has taken on three new engineering apprentices in its workshops in Bristol, UK.

Lloyd Harvey, Tyler Burns and Gabriel Garner, pictured left to right, have all been offered three-year heavy goods apprenticeships based at the Company’s depot in Bristol, UK. They will all combine their training with studies at the S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol, UK.

Lloyd, who’s 16, got interested in being a mechanic working on his father’s cars. Ironically, according to UK law, he’s too young to drive, so he has to cycle to work!

18-year old Tyler comes from the Bristol area. He’d previously had a light vehicle apprenticeship with another company, but he was more interested in heavy goods vehicles. Tyler also developed his interest in engines while working on cars with his father, who’s also a mechanic. He’s passed his driving test and is looking forward to getting his first car.

Gabriel, who’s 21, is also from the Bristol area and is learning to drive. He previously worked in a warehouse, but he’s always been interested in working on heavy goods vehicles so jumped at the chance to join us.

Managing Director, Chris Gardiner, said there is a tradition of offering apprenticeships, something that was started by his grandfather, who founded the Company.

“Our focus is on manufacturing and maintaining highway survey equipment and vehicles, so having apprentices ensures we also have trained engineers coming off the production line.” he said. “It’s vital for us to encourage youngsters to come into engineering and it’s also good for UK plc.”
