Ryland In The Chair

WDM USA’s Director of Business, Ryland Potter, has been elected as ATSSA’s new Chair of the HFST Council.

Ryland takes over the helm from Cliff Barber and says she’s grateful to the previous HSFT leadership for building a community of experts on friction treatments, measurement and safety management.

“It’s been a rewarding journey since I joined ATSSA in 2018,” she said. “I look forward to working with HFST members and stakeholders, in and outside ATSSA, to shine a light on the role of enhanced friction in safety and asset management.”

Ryland launched WDM USA three years ago to provide continuous road friction measurement survey services across the US, a system that has now been recognised by the FHWA as a proven safety countermeasure.

Speaking at the ITE Conference earlier this year, Mike Griffith, FHWA, said: “Looking at the system level, we are promoting continuous pavement friction management. Continuous friction testing improves an agency’s ability to measure friction through intersections and around curves and provides a more comprehensive picture of how friction varies through a section of pavement.

“This technology can measure friction continuously at highway speeds and provide both network and segment level data,” he added.
