On Top of The World – Down Under

WDM’s team in New Zealand has completed the annual survey of all State Highways across the country.

The team, led by manager Darren Newland and senior survey operator Nigel Scott, collected data from 23,600 lane kilometres.

This latest annual survey was year eight of the contract, which started in November in Hawkes Bay and Waikato. The North Island was completed in early January and the South Island was completed at Bluff and Milford Sound on 5 February.

Two SCRIM+ road survey vehicles were used, recording continuous sideway force skid resistance data, GPS, roughness, rutting and alignment. They also delivered a video record of the routes covered and captured the incredible scenery, including NZ’s highest mountain, the snow-covered Mount Cook/Aoraki.

State Highway network, the WDM® team went on to carry out local authority surveys in Southland, with further work in Timaru, Auckland, Manawatu, Rangitikei, Rotorua, Waikato, Hutt and the Western Bay of Plenty.

WDM has been providing SCRIM® road vehicle surveys in New Zealand since the mid 1990’s, helping deliver a reduction in skid related fatalities of up to 40% and dramatically improving safety across the whole network.
