TM2 Trials in the US

The WDM® texture meter, the TM2, took part in Network Level Macrotexture Measurement Equipment trials in the USA. The ‘rodeo’ style trials were held at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute in Blacksburg. The various machines were first tested against accurate material targets with different profiles and then over several routes on the Institute’s test road, with varying materials.

The TM2 uses a transversely mounted laser to measure the road surface to calculate sensor measured texture depth (SMTD) and mean profile depth (MPD) and delivers raw data on a grid of 1mm x 1mm. Machines from Australia and the US also took part.
