The Road Ahead: Is There a Price Tag on Safe, Resilient Roads?
Date: July 26 2023
Time: 2:00PM (EST)
Since it was passed by Congress in 2021 the IIJA has pledged to fund $621 billion of spending on transportation infrastructure, including $115 billion toward highways and roads. Where and how should this money be most effectively invested?
In the next edition of our The Road Ahead Livestream Series, we are joined by the American Highway Users Alliance to discuss current legislation and how data can influence budget allocation to build safer, more efficient highways of the future.
The impact of failed infrastructure is vast – economically, and socially. If data can identify preventative solutions, this knowledge could pinpoint priorities and influence decision-making to build a resilient network.
Andrew Stasiowski, President and CEO of American Highway Users Alliance, and Ryland Potter, WDM USA’s Vice President, discuss examples of infrastructure failures, as well as the recent disruption of I-95 in Philadelphia, which uniquely had solid contingency plans. Ironically, on American highways the wise words of revered Philadelphian Benjamin Franklin are still most appropriate, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The Road Ahead – The Devil is in the Data
Date: March 07 2023
Time: 2:00PM (EST)
Did you know that traffic crashes accidents cost the Federal Government over $340 billion in 2019? That’s $1000 per year for every person in the United States?
Every 10 days the amount of people that die in road traffic accidents equates two 747 jumbo jets crashing. One scenario a tragedy, the other just a statistic.
In the second of The Road Ahead Livestream series, we address the cost of roadway accidents to the nation and the preventative measures being considered to reduce fatalities and financial strain.
WDM USA are joined by Blyncsy, leaders in movement data intelligence, to review the USDOT’s Strategic Plan calling for improved safety data collection.
Jake Halu, Sales Manager at Blyncsy and Ryland Potter, WDM USA’s Vice President of Business Development, utilize both company’s expertise to discuss the strategic importance of safety data for better, safer, and more efficient transportation decisions, which can ultimately save lives.

Safer Roads as the “New Normal”: New Perspectives and Tools in the post-COVID-19 World
Date: August 13 2020
Time: 2:00PM (EST)
After a brief decline in crashes in early 2020, the economic and social impact of Covid-19 has placed enormous stress on the already overstretched US road safety sector.
What new tools and techniques are available to combat a return to the pre-pandemic status quo? How can we better identify the potential for safety improvements and efficiently reduce crash and fatality risk on US roads so that safer roads become the “new normal”?
Join us and Robert Wunderlich, Director for the Center for Transportation Safety at the Texas Transportation Institute, as we discuss challenges and opportunities for traffic safety in the post-Covid-19 world.
